Sad News: NICOLA SEYD

It is with great sadness we received the sad news that Nicola Seyd has died.

Nicola was in the past Secretary of Camden Trades Council and long term officer on Camden; was a delegate to GLATUC and previously an EC member, was previously a delegate to SERTUC; an activist in the CWU; was a key figure in the London Socialist Film Co-op amongst her many involvements in the movement. She had a long time support for Cuba.

When we get further details we will send them.

Condolences we have received so far

As some of you will be aware Nicola had been seriously ill for some time, so news of her passing will not come as a shock. While most of us will have had our disagreements (occasionally sharp!) with Nicola over the years, she certainly won my respect and affection over the years not least for having kept the Trades Council in Camden functioning through some very lean years.

How very sad, please pass on condolences

Yes, it wasn’t really that long ago I saw Nicola outside the national gallery (on a picket line of course!), she is definitely a local activist who will be missed

Sad. She was a stalwart and a consistent fighter.

That is very sad. She was also the person who held together the monthly CP book sales on Marchmont street – I believe she stored these books along with lots of leaflets, banners etc for the Trades Council so will I am sure be sorely missed.

We can make sure there is a good turnout at her funeral!

Chair Camden unison (joint)

I first met Nicola when I was a delegate from the NUR (national union of railways) in the late 70s fighting to keep the EGA Hospital open in Euston road and Her hard work on the miners’ strike in 84 if there was a pick line in Camden she would be on it I am sure there will be many in the labour movement will be heartbroken at this sad news RIP Nicola

Philip Lewis

Vice chair Camden trades council

Camden UNISON Vice Chair & Branch Health & Safety officer & Conv.ASC in HASC & UNISON National & Regional Health & Safety Comm.

Very sad to hear the news. I first met Nicola in 1976 getting her union branch at the post office to support the occupation and demos to save the EGA hospital.

And of course even back then she was involved in Camden Trades Council. (We were always on opposite sides of the arguments!)

She was one of the most consistent activists I know
